Week 11 (w/c 29/11/10)

Here is a mock-up of the inside page I did using InDesign.

From this I can see that it is a bit difficult to put more than one story on the page, if i did they would be very short stories and the images would also be very small. I think there is not a lot of space for more than one full article because there is a difference in the size of paper, newspapers use a larger size paper than I am using. The average tabloid newspaper is “381 mm x558.8 mm”. I am using A3 paper which is “297 mm x 420 mm”.
I prefer to write a whole article, especially because of what my article will be about. That is why I do not really want to force more articles than I can with the small space I have.

Week 10 (w/c 22/11/10)

I am now going to try different layouts for my inside page. I drew some ideas of how I would like my inside page to look.

1. The first one I did looked to similar to the front cover. I want there to be a clear distinction between the front cover and inside page, as there usually is, so I will not be using this one.

2. The second one I did is much better but I feel as though there could be more room for more pictures, advertisements or article.

3. In the last one I did builds upon the second one. In this one there is room for more pictures and a similar story space.

Because this is the launch edition of the newspaper, I don’t think that there should be as much advertising as there would be in a regular and well established newspaper. this is also because there may not be as many advertisers investing in a launch edition of a local newspaper, but once a few copies have sold well there would be an increase in the amount of advertisers and the publishers will have a better idea of the type of adverts people like.
